"It's Not Fair!"

One thing that often Satan tells me is that God's prohibition of the homosexual lifestyle cannot be right, because it "simply is just not fair."  Yes, there are times in my life that I think that my homosexuality truly is not fair to me.  But that is of course a human perspective without the insight of God's total knowledge of His plan for my life and all the reasons that He allowed me to even exist in His universe.

I have to admit that from my limited human perspective, there are many things in life that are not fair.  Let's cover a few of the million or so I could come up with in case you're wondering:

  • It's not fair that babies are killed before they ever take their first breath
  • It's not fair that weaker kids are bullied by stronger kids in the schoolyard
  • It's not fair that dictators can commit heinous acts on innocent citizens of their country
  • It's not fair that some people are much better looking and popular than others
  • It's not fair that many people who do evil seem to thrive while the righteous often get trampled
  • It's not fair that some children have abusive substance-abusing parents who do not love or nurture them
  • It's not fair that children cannot choose the parents to whom they will be born
  • It's not fair that many babies are born with birth defects through no fault of their own
  • It's not fair that some children are cursed with homosexual orientation in a world of mostly heterosexuals

(c) FreeFoto.comThis list, in case you are wondering, could literally be millions of entries long, and we'd still have more room for even more examples of how life is not fair.  My point is that because and ever since sin entered the world, part of the penalty for that original sin is that in our human realm, fairness is not always something we can count on as long as flawed human beings are involved.  Yes, there are many things that you and I may see as "not fair."  But we need to remember that there is one thing that God is abundantly clear on: those who embrace His Son Jesus Christ and give their lives to Him will have everlasting life in Heaven in God's holy realm.  No matter what "unfairness" you face in life, you can have the assurance that you can spend eternity in Heaven if you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior.  And can you believe that there is no real monetary cost to this?  Isn't it wonderful that no matter how poor you are, no matter what kind of childhood you had or how rotten your parents were, you can achieve eternal life in Christ forever.  Now there's some real fairness!

If you, like me, are homosexual, you may, as I sometimes do in my moments of weakness, lament that "it's just not fair that I am homosexual and yet cannot live a homosexual lifestyle and still be holy before God."  Yes, perhaps due to the fact that sin entered the world, that is true that to you and me it appears to be unfair.  But have you ever stopped to think how short this life is when compared to the trillions of years that our souls will live--actually forever?  Can you take a few years of self-denial in order to achieve a reward that will last literally forever?  Are you and I so short-sighted that we cannot deny ourselves for a few measly earth-years in order to have a personal and real relationship with Jesus Christ that will last an eternity?

Well, I cannot speak for you, but I certainly can do without in this life in order to live a life that is acceptable and pleasing to Jesus Christ.  You see, every time Satan reminds me that "it's just not fair that I am homosexual" I then remind him that it was not fair what he told Eve before sin entered into the world, namely that eating of the forbidden fruit would not have disastrous consequences.  If anyone knows about not being fair, Satan should top the list.

So do what I do, invite Jesus to come into your life, ask Him to send the Holy Spirit to encourage and uplift your soul, and be thankful to God for sending His only Son to die on the cross of Calvary for our sins.  I don't know about you, but I think that Jesus' sacrifice on the cross was way beyond fair to me--it was a huge act of love and sacrifice that He did out of His love for you and me, and His desire to see us reign in Heaven with Him forever.  He really asks for very little in return.

Sure there will always seem that it is patently unfair that there are others who are richer, happier, sexier, lovelier, smarter, better looking, better adjusted and holier than you or me.  But really, none of that matters before God.  What does matter is our relationship with Jesus Christ.  And everyone can come before Jesus and have eternal life through Him.  Now I have to admit, that seems MORE than fair to me!
